Dr. Green Lawn golf scramble to benefit Salamanca youth center, historical society
SALAMANCA — Elkdale Country Club will again be the setting for a charitable fundraiser that benefits two of Salamanca’s public benefit groups — the Salamanca Youth Center and the Salamanca Area Historical Society.
On Wednesday, July 9, teams will gather for the 24th Dr. Green Lawn/Custom Turf four-person golf scramble. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. The day will conclude with a prime rib dinner, awards ceremony and prize drawings.
According to Jud and Steve Beattie of Dr. Green Lawn, both tee sponsorships and donations are needed to make this event a success.
“Both the youth center and the historical society contribute greatly to the culture and dynamics of our city, and we want to make this year, our 24th, to be the best year yet,” the Beatties said.
According to Markie Phillips, the Youth Center director, this is the largest source of non-public funding for both organizations.
“Proceeds from the golf tourney go to support and enhance the youth center’s positive programs, including the Fill-A-Backpack program, which provides food to help students through the weekends when school meals are not available,” Phillips said.
Salamanca City Historian James K. Griffith noted that both organizations rely on private funding to keep their operations going.
“As a not-for-profit, we earn our dollars one at a time,” he said, “and the museum uses the funds from the golf tourney to acquire artifacts and create displays without burdening the taxpayers.”
Tee sponsorships are $125 each. Call Elkdale’s pro shop at (716) 945-5553 to register a team. If tee sponsorship or fielding a team is not an option, tax-deductible general donations are always welcome and deeply appreciated.
Sponsorships and donations may be sent directly to Jud Beattie at Dr. Green Lawn/Custom Turf, 296 Rochester St., Salamanca, NY 14779.
