Mosquito Control Notice
The Cattaraugus County Health Department may conduct aerial spraying to kill mosquito larvae in breeding areas located in the townships of: Allegany, Carrollton, Great Valley, Hinsdale, Olean, Portville and Salamanca. Copies of maps indicating the proposed treatment sites, together with this notification, have been placed in the Town Clerk’s office in the Towns of Allegany, Carrollton, Great Valley, Hinsdale, Olean, Portville and Salamanca; in the Village Clerk’s office in the Village of Portville; and in the City Clerk’s office in the cities of Olean and Salamanca. These maps will be available for public viewing during the Clerk’s regular business hours and online at: https://www.cattco.org/health/services/environmental-health/cattaraugus-county-mosquito-spraying-areas-map-viewer.
If aerial spraying occurs, the insecticide, Teknar SC or Vectobac 12AS (active ingredient: Bacillus thuringiensis), will be applied at the rate of 0.25 to 2.0 pints per acre. Their EPA signal word is “Caution”. The EPA Registration Numbers are 73049-435 and 73049-38, respectively. The larvicide will be diluted with potable water.
Zoecon Altosid Liquid Larvicide Concentrate (active ingredient: methoprene) may be substituted for, or in addition to, Teknar SC or Vectobac 12AS. Altosid Liquid Larvicide will be applied at the rate of 0.75 to 1.0 fluid oz. per acre. Its EPA signal word is “Caution”. Its EPA Registration Number is 2724-446.
The proposed application period will be from July 20 through July 26, 2025. The proposed alternative dates for application are from July 27 through August 2, 2025.
Applications will be conducted in accordance with the appropriate New York State Department of Environmental Conservation guidelines.

answer questions regarding the proposed pesticide
application and if requested, will provide a written copy of labels of all pesticides to be used, to any
occupant,
owner or owner’s agent of structures in the area of the pesticide
applications.
