LITTLE VALLEY — A Little Valley man has been jailed for allegedly assaulting a child younger than 2 years old.
Members of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office charged Darrin M. Doner, 18, of Fair Oak Street, with second-degree assault, a class D felony, at 4:20 p.m. Monday. Authorities announced the arrest Friday morning.
The charge stems from an investigation into an alleged incident involving a young child Sunday at his residence, said Sheriff Tim Whitcomb.
“We need to be careful talking specifics,” Whitcomb said.
Doner is the boyfriend of the child’s mother, the sheriff said.
While unable to specify the exact nature of the child’s injuries, Whitcomb assured they, along with the child’s age, merited a felony charge.
“The injuries were serious enough that they required medical evaluation and perhaps some minimal medical intervention,” he said. “... (It) would be a step above above physical injury and a step below deadly physical injury.”
Whitcomb noted the child will recover.
Doner was arraigned in New Albion Town Court and remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail in Little Valley in lieu of $15,000 bail.
