BELFAST — David R. Chalker, 81, of Belfast, passed away Thursday (June 18, 2026) at Cuba Memorial Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit, after a short illness.
Born March 16, 1945, in Cuba, he was a son of Howard and Christine Bump Chalker.
David was a graduate of Belfast High School.
He started working at the Red & White Store on Main Street in Belfast during his high school years and later became the owner until his retirement.
David was a member of the Belfast Historical Society, the Allegany County Democratic Committee, Riverside Cemetery — where he held several offices throughout the years, and was a volunteer driver for the Allegany County Meals on Wheels. He later worked the Green Thumb for New York State.
He is survived by a brother, Bernard Chalker of Florida; two sisters, Ila (Mike) Unfus of Friendship and Laura (Thomas) Dutton of Bliss; two brothers-in-law, Marty Moot of Hamburg and Robert Quinton of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Cis Chalker of Belfast; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Jean (Rich) Meyers, Ann Moot, Jerry (Joan) Chalker, Lee Chalker, Thomas Chalker and his twin sister Doris Quinton.
At his request there will be no services. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast, at the convenience of the family.
