Roberta S. ‘Punkie’ Cannon
PORTVILLE — Roberta S. “Punkie” Cannon, 80, of Coon Hollow Road, Portville, passed away Tuesday (May 26, 2026) at Jones Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family, after a lengthy illness.
Born July 18, 1945, in Cuba, she was a daughter of Frank C. and Dolores M.L. Easton Resch. On June 6, 1964, in Gowanda, she married Michael J. Cannon, who survives.
She was a graduate of Cuba Central School, Class of 1963, and attended Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa.
Punkie’s career was based in retail having worked for Clark Brothers, Dan Horne Pharmacy, CVS, Reeds Food Barn and last as a price checker with her husband at Olean Wholesale.
She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba and her hobbies included bowling, puzzles and playing euchre and pinochle.
In addition to her husband, Michael, she is survived by her children, Kelly (James) Sharpstene of Pavilion, Michael Cannon Jr., of San Antonio, Texas and Colleen (Clayton) Truax of Alfred; her grandchildren, Shawn, Sarah, Devun, Charise and Thomas; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Parker, Cameran, Kaydence, Paisley, Adalynn and Maverick; her siblings, Patricia A. Sheridan of Boston, Mass., Dolores P. Corell of Brockport, Theresa V. (Paul) Gaeta, Karen C. (Daniel) Comes and Timothy (Elizabeth) Resch, all of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son that passed in infancy, Shawn Cannon; and four brothers, John F. Resch, Francis C. Resch, David D. Resch and Gerald E. Resch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. today (May 30, 2026) at Our Lady of Angels Church, 50 South St., Cuba. The Rev. James Hartwell will officiate. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America
