Dorothy E. Frungillo, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother
BELMONT — Dorothy E. Frungillo, 92, of Belmont, passed away Saturday, (May 23, 2026) surrounded by her family.
Born March 25, 1934, in Caneadea, she was a daughter of Frank and Lucille Hillman Sprague. On Dec. 7, 1951, in Bath, she married Donald Paul Frungillo Sr., who predeceased her Feb. 18, 2011.
A graduate of the Caneadea one-room schoolhouse, Dorothy dedicated her early years to raising her children. She then spent 12 years working as a school bus driver for Belmont Central School before devoting her time to caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy found pleasure in life’s simple joys: gardening, canning, camping and family barbecues. She took immense pride in keeping her lawn manicured and bird feeders filled.
However, her greatest source of happiness was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, even taking on the memorable task of teaching her grandchildren how to drive. She also held a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Donald (Donna) Frungillo Jr. of Scio, James (Diane) Frungillo of Belmont, Kathy (Lon) Hamlin of Wellsville, Steven (Amy) Frungillo of Cuba, Dan Frungillo of Belmont and Mary (Rich) Tomak of Wellsville; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Paula Budinger; a daughter-in-law, Melinda Frungillo; stepchildren, Craig and Colleen; a brother, Archie Hillman; and three sisters, Mary Jane Lockwood, Ethel Mae Gowdy and Effie Sweet.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on today (May 26, 2026) at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba. Visitation will continue from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday (May 27, 2026) at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church, 5 Milton St., Belmont, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will begin. The Rev. Jeffrey Donovan will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Belmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Cemetery Association, 5 Milton St, Belmont 14813; Allegany County Cancer Services, P.O. Box 534, Wellsville, NY 14895; or the donor’s choice.
