SALAMANCA — Douglass McClain Arrowsmith III, 76, of Salamanca, left this Earth on Friday (May 15, 2026) with his beloved wife at his side, at Heritage Green in Greenhurst, following a long illness.
Born March 26, 1950, in Salamanca, he was the son of the late Douglass Jr. and Margaret Glow Arrowsmith. He was married March 20, 1971, in Salamanca, to the former Susan Bach, who survives.
He was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1968, and attended Morrisville College, Morrisville.
Doug had been employed with the former Fancher Furniture Company for many years and took great pride in his work. He later worked in the maintenance department of Allegany State Park for over 12 years.
He was a member of the Holy Cross Club in Salamanca and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He was Exalted Ruler, secretary and chaplain of the BPOE Elks Lodge in Salamanca.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting (even though he never shot anything) and fishing with his son, and was an avid camper. Douglass loved all animals, especially his cat, Morty. He enjoyed cooking, especially Chinese food and barbecue. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Douglass Arrowsmith IV of Ellicottville; a brother, Steven (Nan) Arrowsmith of Busti; two sisters-in-law, Marcia Mongillo of Salamanca and Diane Bach of Jamestown; three nephews, Jason Mongillo, John S. Bach and Matthew Nuttal; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a very special cousin, Chan Glow; and a very dear friend, Ronald Rolfe.
He was predeceased by a stepbrother, John Buelow
There will be no visitation or services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6400 Sheridan Drive Suite 320, Buffalo, NY 14221.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca.
