Jane A. Calvert, Loving mother and grandmother
OLEAN — Jane A. Calvert, 98, of Olean, passed away Monday (Dec. 22, 2025) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 11, 1927, in Salamanca, the daughter of the late Anthony J. and Ella M. Rojek Prusinowski. On April 12, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Rectory in Salamanca, with Rev. Harry Osborne officiating, she married William C. Calvert, who predeceased her in 1981.
A 1940 graduate of Holy Cross School in Salamanca and a 1944 graduate of Salamanca, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and chairman of the 1944 yearbook typing staff.
Jane was employed as a legal secretary for Homer A. Hutcheson, an attorney in Salamanca, for three years; and then for 15 years for Attorney Nicholas Rogers in Olean, later in various offices.
Jane was a member of the former St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Hinsdale for 40 years. She served on the Altar and Rosary societies, also as a lector and a Eucharistic Minister at the former St. John’s Church. She was vice-president of the former Women’s Ecumenicum.
Jane was a member of the Guys and Gals Seniors of Hinsdale and was active with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was also a member of VFW Auxiliary 1619 in Salamanca; a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary 530 of Olean, where she served as chaplain and president; and also served as chaplain and president of the Cattaraugus County American Legion Auxiliary from 1984 to 1985.
Jane is survived by her four children, Clifford A. (Patricia) Calvert, Marcella M. (Richard) Rose, Rebecca J. Ferry and Judith M. Ballou; seven grandchildren, Carrie Rose, Patrick Zink, Scott Zink, Gregory Rose, Brian Calvert, Craig Calvert and Eric Calvert; eight great-grandchildren, Justine (Brian) Honsinger, Lucas Zink, Matthew Calvert, Rylie Calvert, Alycia Zink, Isaac Calvert, Evan Calvert and Brianna Zink; a great great-granddaughter, Julia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1981; a son, Bruce, in 1978; and her parents, Anthony and Ella; two brothers, Robert and Paul Prusinowski; and two sisters, Margie Shurilla and Donna Zalewski.
Family and friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Monday (Dec. 29, 2025) at St. John’s Church, 921 N. Union St., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John’s Church or the Town of Olean Volunteer Fire Dept.
