Michael ‘Mike’ Daniel Pletl

Michael “Mike” Daniel Pletl, 59, peacefully passed away at his home in North Topsail Beach, NC on Oct. 28, 2025 after a three-year battle with cancer.

Mike was born on Sept. 4, 1966 in Elmira New York to Francis Clement Pletl and Elizabeth Louise Petteys Pletl. In 1985 he graduated from Olean High School, he then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Jan. 1986. His Marine Corps career included boot camp at Parris Island, SC; duty stations MCAS Cherry Point; MCAS Kaneohe Bay; Courthouse Bay, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune; various areas of deployment; and serving in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was always a patriot and his core values were epitomized by the Marine Corps’ phrase – God, Family, Country, Corps.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature. Whether on the water, in the woods, hiking, boating, hunting, fishing or just driving down a country dirt road, when he was living his best life, he was usually outdoors.

He liked to keep busy and always had a project or job on which he was working. He was employed aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and worked as a utilities division Planner Estimator for the Department of Defense. He was a Master Electrician in the state of North Carolina and owned his own electrical business. Extraordinarily handy, there were very few things he could not create or fix.

He was outwardly quiet and reserved but close family and friends saw his true fun and adventurous personality and sense of humor. Not one to ever want a lot of attention, he quietly did many kind deeds for others and was always willing to make a donation or lend a hand.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, to Mike, family was everything. His wife Connie was his partner, his love, his best friend and soulmate. His children Bethany, Brittany and John were his world. He looked forward to every moment they spent together and cherished the memories made throughout the years. He loved and adored his grandchildren. They made him smile and laugh; he talked about them all the time and was always thrilled to see them. He loved his brothers and the childhood they had shared with their parents and extended family.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, Constance “Connie” Elwell Pletl; children Bethany Argenbright (William), Brittany Pletl (Timothy Rogers); John Pletl (Nicole); grandchildren Tyler Argenbright, Logan Argenbright, Hailey Argenbright, Layla Brouwer, Ryker Severs, Axton LeMere, Burton Pletl; brothers James Pletl (Van), Mark Pletl (Debbie), Ronald Pletl, Brian Pletl; and many aunts and uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Francis Clement Pletl and Elizabeth Louise Petteys Pletl, as well as infant brother Christopher John Pletl.

A memorial service will be held on Nov. 15, 2025 at North Topsail Shores Baptist Church, located at 808 Old Folkstone Road, Sneads Ferry, NC. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service taking place at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held after the service until 3 p.m. in Onslow Hall at the St. Regis Resort, 2000 New River Inlet Road, North Topsail Beach, NC.
