Philip Arthur ‘Flip’ Pantano, loving husband
OLEAN — Philip A. Pantano, of Seneca Avenue, passed away Friday (Oct. 10, 2025) at Olean General Hospital.
Flip was born April 4, 1953, in Olean, and was the son of Vincent J. and Helen Anna Bender Pantano. On July 20, 1982 in Austin, Texas, he married Barbara A. Tassin, who survives.
Flip was a 1971 graduate of Hinsdale High School.
He worked for North Gale Buick Dealership as an auto repair GM tech. Flip then moved to Huston, Texas, and worked for Astro AMC Dealership for about a year before returning to Olean and working for John Hardy Chevy. He then moved back to Austin as a GM tech, moving back to Olean to work at Bokman’s from 1983 to 1995 then at Weatherall Chevy in Cuba.
Flip loved music, playing bass. He played in many bands in Austin. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and even won first plate at Motor City Raceway in 1989 for drag racing.
Along with his loving wife, Barbara, Flip is survived by three stepchildren, Michael J. (Lisa) Sanchez of Round Rock, Texas, Barbara Michelle Sanchez of San Marcos, Texas and Stephen N. (Connie) Sanchez of Seattle, Wash.; many grandchildren; three siblings, Paul Pantano of Hinsdale, Perian Pantano of Allegany and Pamila Pantano of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.
Flip was predeceased by his parents; and two siblings, Peter Pantano and Patricia Schoonover.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
