John F. Cross
BELMONT — John F. Cross, 87, of 5054 State Route 244, Belmont, and a former resident of Friendship, passed away Saturday (Oct. 11, 2025) at Jones Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born Aug. 5, 1938, in Cuba, he was a son of Neil and Dorothea Evans Cross. On Feb. 24, 2000, in Belmont, he married the former Catherine J. Witt, who survives.
John worked for MK (Alstom) in Hornell, Dresser Clark and ACME Electric, but retired from Kraft Foods, where he was a line technician. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
He attended Friendship Bible Baptist Church and was a member of the Gospel Fellowship Church in Belmont, where he helped to build the building.
In his spare time, John enjoyed building computers and was a jack-of-all-trades, having the ability to fix and repair anything.
In addition to his wife, Catherine, he is survived by two sons, Paul Cross of Andover and Michael Cross of Almond; two daughters, Pamela Browning of Wellsville and Theresa Cross; several grandchildren; a brother, Mac Cross of Bolivar; two sisters, June Northrup and Marilyn Cross-Day, both of Brockport; a sister-in-law, Stella Cross of Friendship; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Milton and Maurice Cross.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday (Oct. 17, 2025) at the Friendship Bible Baptist Church, 43 W. Main St., at which time a funeral service will begin. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship.
