Stephen W. Wise
CUBA — Stephen W. Wise, 74, of Spring Street, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 8, 2025).
Born June 1, 1951, in Olean, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Mildred DeLong Wise. On Nov. 3, 1973, in Coventry, R.I., he married Cynthia L. Barnes, who survives.
Mr. Wise served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, with postings in Rhode Island, Maryland and training in Tennessee.
After his military service, he was employed at the Cookie Factory in Cuba and later as a corrections officer with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department.
Active in the Cuba Cub Scouts and Cuba Boy Scouts, he served as a leader when his son was involved. He was known for his skills as a handyman and for mowing lawns for elderly neighbors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Larry (Andrea) Wise of Kane, Pa.; a daughter, Sally (Werts) of Olean; four grandchildren, Kenneth, Jacob, Emmy and Isabella; a great-granddaughter; a brother, David (Charlene) Wise of Cuba; and a sister, Rebecca Wise of Macedon.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday (Oct. 15, 2025) at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, 9 Bull St., Cuba, where a funeral service will follow at noon. Pastor Bill Beck will officiate.
Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
