RIXFORD, Pa. — Edgar C. Porter, 87, of Depot Street, went to be with the Lord, his wife and his son on Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2025) at Olean General Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born Aug. 18, 1938, in Lewis Run, he was a son of John A. and Ethel J. Walters Porter. On March 28, 1959, in the Smethport Methodist Church, he married Maxine M. Morris, who preceded him in death Feb. 27, 2015.
Mr. Porter was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1959, where he served aboard the USS Dixson as a boatsman’s mate.
Ed attended Smethport Area Schools and has resided in Rixford since 1972.
He spent his career working as a crude unit operator for Quaker State in Farmers Valley, which later became International Wax, from where he retired in 2005 after working there for 41 years. After retirement he was employed for many years by Todd Busses in Eldred driving school bus.
Mr. Porter was a member of the Rixford Evangelical Church as well as the American Legion Post 887 of Eldred and finally the Otto Township Fire Department, where he was a past fire police chief and the Tri-County Fire School past director. He was also a member of the ATV Traction Club in Duke Center.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and ATVing as well as snowmobiling with his wife.
Surviving are three sons, Roger Porter of Rixford, Kenneth (Brooklyn) Porter of Texas and Scott (Jackie) Porter of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Scotty, Amanda, Kennedy and Elijah; Also surviving is a special friend and companion, Barb Green of Shinglehouse.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Porter; three brothers, James, Harold and Gerald; and three sisters, Viola Compton, Ruth Knight, and Delores Schimp.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today (Sept. 20, 2025) at the Frame Funeral Home, Eldred, at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Mike Rex, pastor of the Rixford Evangelical Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Full military honors will be presented at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service.
