OLEAN — Cattaraugus County officials are looking for input on finding and solving housing problems.
The Cattaraugus County Land Bank is seeking input from the public on housing and housing infrastructure topics in September at a pair of workshop sessions. A session will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 4 in the Magnano Conference Room at JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus on North Union Street. A second conference is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Legislative Chamber at the Cattaraugus County office building, Court Street, Little Valley.
The effort is part of a housing study being conducted by the land bank, which is looking to find ways to improve housing conditions and collaborate to create new housing choices, while at the same time helping with vacant and abandoned property problems. In addition, the study will also help the county, municipalities, and private developers by collecting and publishing data on the housing stock and real estate market that can help promote improvements and growth. Among the topics to be covered are quality, blight, and safety issues.
A survey is also being planned, according to the study website, but it has not been released.
According to the request for proposals, the study team will look at current housing data, identify issues with the supply, host public meetings and collect information from the public to find housing issues, and offer strategies to address those issues. In addition, the study will look at specific sites and infrastructure needs for possible development opportunities.

The Land Bank was formed in 2016, with a board made up of four county legislators and the county treasurer, the director of the Office of Real Property Services and GIS Services, and the director of the Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism.
