Donald J. Larson, loving father and grandfather
CUBA — Donald J. Larson, formerly of 249 West Shore Road, passed away Friday (Aug. 15, 2025) at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Olean.
Don was born June 9, 1937, in Olean, and was the son of “Zeke” Luzern and Irene Halsen Larson. On Dec. 28, 1958, he married Barbara S. Scott, who predeceased him July 13, 2021.
Don was a 1955 graduate of Olean High School.
He began working at the age of nine as a paperboy, where he worked for nine years. At the age of 18 he began working at Clark Brothers during the day and took night time drafting class. Don worked at Dresser Rand/Clark Brothers from 1955 to 1992 as a manager of installation drafting. He always worked two or more jobs including owning and operating a garbage pick-up business, “Hinsdale Pick Up Service.”
Don and his wife wintered in Eustis, Fla., for 20 years.
Don was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling in the RV with his wife, playing golf and fishing, but most of all his family was his pride and joy.
Don is survived by four children, Diane C. (John) Beckingham of Holly, Daniel J. (Patricia) Larson of Wellsville, Timothy D. (Julie) Larson of Cuba and Eric D. (Terry Hilliard) Larson of Sheffield, Pa.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Sonya Borlandelli of Alimo, Calif. and Fredric (Karen) Larson of Cuba Lake.
Along with his loving wife, Barbara, Don was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Doris Larson.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 20, 2025) at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., at which time a funeral service will be held. Rev. Kim E. Rossi, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery.
