State & Union: Bonafest set for Friday in Allegany
The annual Bonafest, an important fundraiser that 100% supports the operations and general finances for St. Bonaventure Parish in Allegany, is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Allegany American Legion.
“We are thrilled to be able to hold Bonafest again this year,” says Judy French, a Bonafest committee member.
Participants can soak up the family atmosphere, sitting down and enjoying a bardbecue chicken dinner with salt potatoes, vegetable and roll while listening to music by Generations.
A large raffle drawing featuring $11,000 in cash prizes will begin at 7 p.m., with ticket purchases available prior to the drawing. Additional attractions will include a bake sale and basket raffles that feature a St. Bonaventure Golf Course basket and a Buffalo Bills basket, as well as a variety of gift cards, lottery tickets and cash.
The chicken dinner tickets are $15 and are pre-sale only.
“We invite you to come and enjoy a meal and music with us,” says French. “We appreciate and thank you for your support.”

RED CROSS URGES BLOOD DONATIONS
The American Red Cross urges all donors to give blood or platelets now to keep the blood supply strong this summer. Type O blood products are most needed on hospital shelves — especially in the face of summer challenges that can quickly cause blood and platelet reserves to drop.
In addition to summer fun and holidays, severe summer weather can have a sudden impact on the ability to collect blood and platelets. Scheduling and keeping donation appointments are crucial this month to ensure blood products are constantly available in the weeks to come for all patients, including those in trauma situations that may require several lifesaving transfusions.
All blood types are needed, and donors who don’t know their blood type can learn it after donation. Book a time to give blood or platelets by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling (800) RED CROSS or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
