Police reports 7/9/25: Olean pair face multiple charges following traffic stop
OLEAN — Two Olean men were arrested Friday after being spotted driving an allegedly stolen vehicle, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.
Anthony M. Margeson, 40, and Eric R. Smith, 35, were taken into custody at 4:02 a.m. Friday following a traffic stop on Washington Street. Margeson was allegedly operating a vehicle that was reported stolen out of the city of Jamestown.
Following an investigation, drug paraphernalia was reportedly observed in plain view and K9 Lex provided a positive indication on the vehicle for the odor of narcotics. A vehicle search reportedly discovered approximately 25.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine, an unspecified quantity of suspected Oxycodone pills, multiple plastic baggies, a scale, lock picking tools, a reportedly stolen Samsung smartphone, four reportedly stolen debit cards and miscellaneous unspecified drug paraphernalia.
Margeson was subsequently charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A-II felony; third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, an unclassified misdemeanor; possession of burglar tools and two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, class A misdemeanors.
Smith was charged with three counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony.
Margeson and Smith were remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail and were due back in court for further proceedings.
Olean Police
- Monday, 5:01 p.m., one injury was reported following a two-vehicle accident involving a bicycle in the Francis Plaza parking lot near West State Street. A vehicle operated by Dakota J. Peters, 20, of 508 W. Henley St., was exiting the lot when it reportedly collided with a bicycle operated by James M. Hovey, 36, of 313 S. Third St.

- ASHFORD — Tylyr N. Tingue, 43, of Ashford, was charged at 11 p.m. July 2 with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child, class A misdemeanors. The charges stem from a reported domestic incident. Tingue was released with an appearance ticket.
- CATTARAUGUS — Charles R. Strickland, 37, of Cattaraugus, was charged at 7 p.m. Friday with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, unclassified misdemeanors. Strickland was released with an appearance ticket.
- ELLICOTTVILLE — Andrew J. Usyk, 33, of Springville, was charged at 10:20 p.m. Friday with driving while ability impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor; resisting arrest and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, class A misdemeanors; failure to keep right, failure to use designated lane, speeding and inadequate tail lamps, infractions. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Route 219. Usyk was released with an appearance ticket.
- PORTVILLE — Adrienne E. Metcalf, 23, of Olean, was charged Sunday with attempted third-degree criminal mischief and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, class A misdemeanors; and second-degree harassment, a violation. Metcalf was released with an appearance ticket.
- OLEAN — Christopher L. Gross, 55, of Olean, was charged at 4:03 a.m. Sunday with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; driving while ability impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor; inadequate exhaust, obstructed plate and refusal to take a breath test, infractions. The charges stem from a traffic stop on North Seventh Street, during which Gross was allegedly found to possess an unspecified quantity of suspected crack cocaine. He was released with an appearance ticket.
- YORKSHIRE — Michael D. Learn, 32, of Yorkshire, was arrested at 11:44 p.m. Sunday on a bench warrant issued out of Cattaraugus County Court. Learn was transported to Cattaraugus County Court and held pending further court proceedings.
- OLEAN — Curtis L. Berkhouse, 43, of Olean, was charged at 3:56 a.m. Monday with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, an unclassified misdemeanor; two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor; speed in zone and failure to keep right, infractions. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Washington Street, during which deputies allegedly located an unspecified quantity of suspected crack cocaine, two scales and a glass pipe with residue. Berkhouse was released with an appearance ticket.

- ALLEGANY — Annette M. Quigley, 56, of Salamanca, was charged at 1:20 p.m. Sunday with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. Quigley was released with an appearance ticket.
- SOUTH DAYTON — Nathaniel Joseph Grekulak, 28, of Perrysburg, was charged Tuesday with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor. Grekulak’s status was not reported.
