Lizards fall 5-3 to Rapids in NYCBL action; weather halts Oilers game
SALAMANCA — The Salamanca Lizards were riding high off of a doubleheader sweep on Sunday against the Rochester Hitmen. But they couldn’t continue that momentum into Tuesday as they lost 5-3 to the Genesee Rapids in Salamanca.
The Rapids scored two in the third, two in the fifth and one in the seventh. Salamanca got behind 2-0 in the third inning and then their deficit was 4-0 after the fifth when pitcher Josh Martos was removed after giving up four earned runs and six hits while striking out five.
Matt Smith and Connor Smith each had singles in the fifth inning to score the first two Lizard runs, and Gavin Lasko had an RBI double in the sixth to complete the Salamanca scoring. Lasko was 2-4 to lead the Lizard lineup, Nate Tyler pitched the rest of the game with three hits and one earned run allowed.
Salamanca (10-13-3) will travel to face the Hornell Steamers Wednesday before facing the Olean Oilers at 7 p.m. Thursday in Olean. The Oilers were rained out Tuesday in Hornell, but were leading 4-1 after one inning of play.
