10-12 year old softball Allegany all-stars eliminated in sectional tournament
The 10-12 year old Allegany softball all-stars lost two games in the Sectional double elimination tournament Sunday.
They first lost to Fredonia 5-2 after getting out to an early 2-0 lead. Quinn Irons doubled in the first inning and scored after Kendall Simpson got the first run of the game. But Fredonia got a run in the bottom half of the inning and had two great innings in the fourth and fifth to go ahead.
Eleigh Brink pitched for Allegany, and struck out 14 batters. She allowed a double and a single in the fourth inning, with each turning into runs. Then in the fifth, Allegany had a tough time fielding as Fredonia scored two more runs off of bad throws and missed plays.
Irons finished 1-2 at the plate with Simpson going 0-1 with two walks. Brink also added a single, and that was pretty much it as Allegany had three hits.
Then they played again right after their first game, this time against Orchard Park. Allegany came into this tournament as the District 2 champions, but all of a sudden against the other district title winners they found themselves on the ropes to keep their summer softball hopes alive.
Irons was the starting pitcher, and this time Allegany were the ones fighting from behind after the first inning. A single turned into an Orchard Park run in the top half, and three more runs in the second made things worse.
Allegany would lose 7-2, with their two runs coming from Shelby Chamberlain hitting an RBI single and Sterling Prince with an RBI triple in the fifth inning. After a great district title run, it was a quick finish to Allegany’s season in sectionals.
