Olean and Salamanca doubleheader ends with a tie and Olean victory
The Salamanca Lizards and Olean Oilers failed to decide a winner in the first game of their doubleheader Wednesday as they tied 4-4. But Olean got the better of Salamanca in the second game, winning 6-2.
Connor Smith led the Lizards with three RBIs while going 2-3. He doubled in the third inning to score two runs and later singled in another run to tie the game in the seventh.
Olean jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, Chase Fischer and Owen Smith each had RBI singles.
The second game was highlighted by Virginia freshman Bryce Neely’s third inning two-run home run to make it 3-0 Oilers. Olean used four pitchers throughout the seven inning game. They combined for 10 strikeouts with only six hits allowed.
Olean (9-5-1) sits in second place in the West division while Salamanca (4-9-2) is in last place.
The two teams play each other again at 7 p.m. Friday in Olean.
