Olean Portville Lions Club presents scholarships to graduating seniors
OLEAN — The Olean Portville Lions Club presented two scholarships to graduating seniors from Allegany-Limestone Central School and Olean High School at a dinner Thursday at Tony’s Napoli.
Alyssa Gaylor from Olean and Addie Fisher from Allegany-Limestone are the recipients of the Bray, Dohl, Driscoll Scholarship, given in memory of three very dedicated Lions, each of whom helped children in Cattaraugus County.
Lion Rolland Bray was a teacher and guidance counselor for the Portville school district. Lion Jim Driscoll worked as a guidance counselor at Olean. Lion Bert Dohl was an attorney who dedicated his life as a law guardian for many children in Cattaraugus County.
These men exemplified the Lion’s motto, “We Serve,” and aided many children in the surrounding communities of Allegany, Olean, Portville and Hinsdale.
If anyone wants to know where to drop off their used eyeglasses, a major project for the Lions, there are stations to donate them throughout the area. Only complete eyeglasses are accepted — no cases or sunglasses.
Stations can be found at the Allegany-Limestone Middle/High School; Allegany Post Office; Ellicottville Eye Care; Community Bank of Franklinville; Hinsdale Post Office; Limestone Post Office; Allegany Eye Associates; Community Eyecare Specialists; Council Optometric; Enchanted Mountain Eyecare; Tony’s Napoli; Olean Area Medical Loan Center; Olean Post Office; Sports Locker; Jonah’s Attic; Portville Post Office; Salamanca Public Library; Salamanca Area Senior Center and the Westons Mills Post Office.
