United Way announces $197K in grants for Cattaraugus, Allegany counties
OLEAN — Local groups will benefit from almost $200,000 in support from the United Way of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.
The nonprofit agency announced $197,375 in community grants to 37 local programs for the year. Officials said the funds will help address critical needs, especially in the areas of youth opportunity, health, financial security, and community resiliency.
“These grants are more than just funding: they represent a shared investment in the future of our region,” said Executive Director Susan McAuley. “Thanks to the generosity of local donors and the collaboration of dedicated nonprofits, these dollars will touch thousands of lives over the coming year. Thank you to every donor, volunteer, and agency partner who makes this possible. When we live united, we create communities where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”
Grants were awarded through a community-driven process involving volunteers from both counties, who reviewed applications and prioritized programs with a strong local impact.
In Allegany County, $99,250 in grants were awarded to 19 groups. Grant areas and recipients include:
Emergency Services & Basic Needs: Awards to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, and ACCORD helps ensure Allegany County families have access to food and shelter.
Youth & Child Care Support: Awards to Trinity Christian Daycare, YMCA, Fillmore Powerhouse, and the Cuba Library provide support for working families including child care scholarships, tutoring, and summer learning.
Health & Independence: Awards to HomeCare & Hospice, Allegany County Senior Foundation, Allegany County Blind Association, and Allegany County Mental Health support residents of all ages.
Opportunities for Growth: Awards to Southern Tier Traveling Teachers, Scouting, Houghton RFKC, and more supports youth and adults in gaining skills, confidence, and lifelong connections.
Eighteen Cattaraugus County groups received $98,125 in grants. Areas of focus and recipients include:
Fighting Hunger & Homelessness: Grants to FeedMore WNY, Genesis House, The Warming House, Catholic Charities, and The Salvation Army.
Investing in Youth: Grants to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bona Buddies, Girl Scouts, Scouting America, Special Olympics, and Kids ROC provide mentorship, recreation, and developmental support for local children.
Family & Health Resources: Grants to EPIC’s family engagement program, HomeCare & Hospice, Interfaith Caregivers, and CBA Vision Rehabilitation help individuals of all ages.
Affordability & Access: YMCA child care scholarships and utility shutoff assistance are part of United Way’s ongoing efforts to reduce barriers and improve economic stability for ALICE households — those who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, but Employed.
