Scio Lions Club Strawberry Festival is Saturday
SCIO — The Annual Lions Club Scio Strawberry Festival is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Scio Central School.
The highlight of the event is this year’s sweet and tasty bumper crop of fresh strawberries cleaned and hulled by members of the Lions Club and fresh, flavorful, homemade biscuits also prepared by Lions Club supporters.
There will also be ice cream to put your strawberries on if biscuits are not your style. This event has been taking place for decades and in the past was held during the week. It has evolved into a Saturday event to accommodate more people and activities as it serves as one of the club’s largest fundraisers and supports its community outreach programs.
As in the past, wildlife expert Bwana Jim (Jim Moulton of Shinglehouse, Pa.) will be on hand offering two shows — at noon and at 2:30 p.m. — from his tent on the grounds of the school. Bwana Jim specializes in exotic animals from reptiles to birds of prey — all presented under his expert command.
The festival offers great food, from the Class of 2027’s lemonade stand to the Lions Club’s hamburgers, hot dogs and Italian sausage.
The event also features more than 35 vendors offering everything from crocheted items to kitchen utensils, jewelry and more.
The Scio Library will also be on hand with books and other items from their shelves for sale.
The Scio Fire Department is helping out with the event by putting one or more of their vehicles on display.
