Police reports 6/17/25: Traffic stop leads to pair of drug arrests
OLEAN — Two men were arrested on felony drug-related charges following a traffic stop in the city Sunday night, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Joseph P. Dempsey, 45, of Olean, was charged at 11:48 p.m. Sunday with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, class A misdemeanors.
Dempsey was also found to have active warrants issued out of Salamanca City Court and Cheektowaga Town Court.
Brian J. Learn, 43, of Bolivar, was charged at the same time with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor; third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, an unclassified misdemeanor; and no signal, an infraction.
The charges stem from a traffic stop on North Second Street, during which deputies allegedly discovered an unspecified quantity of suspected fentanyl and suspected methamphetamine, packaging material, a scale and other unspecified drug paraphernalia.
Learn was released with an appearance ticket. Dempsey was remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail and held on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 property bond.
Salamanca Police
- Monday, 8:51 p.m., Patrick A. Askey Jr., 33, of Salamanca, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, an unclassified misdemeanor; failure to keep right and driving to the left of pavement markings, infractions. Askey was released with an appearance ticket.
- Monday, 9:31 p.m., Jordan M. Strauss, 39, of Salamanca, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, an unclassified misdemeanor. Strauss was released with an appearance ticket.
New York State Police
- DELEVAN — Joseph M. McMahon, 57, of Delevan, was charged at 8:47 a.m. Monday with second-degree assault, a class D felony. McMahon was held without bail.
