More rain expected this week
More rain is on the way for the Olean area in the coming week, though the National Weather Service predicts a lower chance for severe weather than the region experienced last week.
“The severe weather risk looks relatively low through much of this week. We’re looking at mostly the potential for some soaking rainfall. We’ll keep a close eye on if there’s any potential for localized poor drainage flooding issues. … But the timing of the system isn’t really conducive to severe weather,” explained Philip Pandolfo, a meteorologist at the Buffalo office of the NWS.
Tuesday will be partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of showers or stray thunderstorms in the afternoon and a high in the low- to mid-70s. Showers will likely continue heading into Wednesday morning, clearing out in the afternoon as the day will remain mostly overcast. Wednesday will be warmer, with a high around 80 expected.
More precipitation will arrive Wednesday night and heading into Thursday morning, currently predicted to be a heavy, soaking rainfall. Temperatures will dip a bit Thursday, with a high in the low 70s.
“We’ll gradually start to dry out as we head into later Thursday evening into Thursday night. We likely to see a brief dry period with only just alight chance of showers Friday,” said Pandolfo.
Friday will be partly cloudy and warmer with a high in the mid-70s.
“Heading into the weekend, we’re going to be looking at another unsettled weekend in general. Increasing chances for showers as we go through the day Saturday, particularly as we get into Saturday night. There is a risk of some thunderstorms embedded in there as well,” Pandolfo said.
Sunday is expected to be considerably warmer, with a high in the mid-80s, as more thunderstorms are probable in the morning.
Looking ahead to next week, Pandolfo explained that while precipitation is difficult to forecast this far out, a heat wave may be coming to the area.
“Our forecast going through Monday, it looks like we actually have temperatures getting into the low 90s around the Olean area, with increased humidity as well,” he said.
