DePerro School at SBU hosts Anatomage workshop
ST. BONAVENTURE — The DePerro School of Health Professions at St. Bonaventure University welcomed health science educators Friday for a regional workshop on 3D anatomy visualization systems that allow for virtual dissection.
The Anatomage Workshop drew approximately 25 attendees from 10 colleges and universities, all of which use Anatomage tables in their teaching. Experts say the life-size touchscreen tables are transforming health education by providing an interactive and repeatable way to study human anatomy without the need for traditional cadaver labs.
Five representatives from Anatomage’s Northeast regional team facilitated the daylong workshop, which included both instructional sessions and hands-on activities. Attendees explored the history and evolution of virtual cadavers, shared best practices for classroom use, and learned about new and advanced features available on the tables.
Regional institutions represented included the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Pa., Jamestown Community College, Alfred State, Alfred University, Finger Lakes Community College and St. Bonaventure.
Dr. Swagata Banik, dean of the DePerro School, welcomed participants and emphasized the potential for future collaborations among Anatomage users in the region.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Scott Medler, associate professor in the university’s Physician Assistant Studies program, and Paul Myatovich, Anatomage’s senior regional representative for the Northeast.
“Today has exceeded my hopes for this workshop,” said Myatovich, reflecting on the strong turnout and enthusiastic engagement from participants.
“We hope to use this event as a model for future workshops that bring Anatomage table users together to learn from one another,” Medler said.
