Houghton’s Dave and Linda Edwards honored for service to Allegany County
BELMONT — At the Allegany County Legislative Board meeting on June 11, the Board adopted a resolution recognizing Dave and Linda Edwards of Houghton for their commitment and service to their community and Allegany County.
Dave Edwards was employed by the Town of Caneadea for 35 years and was a volunteer with the Houghton Fire/Ambulance Department for 39 years, serving as chief for 28 years. Linda Edwards was employed by Allegany County for 34 years first as a probation officer and then as director of the Youth Bureau and Stop-DWI Program.
Mr. Edwards is a life member of the Allegany County Volunteer Fireman’s Association and was awarded the Fireman of the Year for Heroism in 2007, and at retirement was recognized by Congressman Tom Reed and Senator Cathy Young for his service to the community.
At retirement, Mrs. Edwards received awards from the New York State Stop-DWI Association, New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee,and Allegany County Mental Health Association and was recognized by the New York State Senate and United States Congress for service to the community.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwards have been 4-H leaders and volunteers since 1998 and operated the 4-H food stand at the Allegany County Fair for over 10 years. They have also judged 4-H contests for over 25 years.
Allegany County Board Chair W. Brooke Harris expressed appreciation for the Edwards’ service to the community.
“Thank you to Dave and Linda for your commitment to making Allegany County a better place and we wish you good health and happiness in your retirement years,” he said.
