CUBA — Town Supervisor Lee James said a nearly weeklong emergency order banning water vessels on Cuba Lake due to flood-related debris and pollutants will be rescinded at 5 p.m. today.

“We kindly request boaters to exercise extreme caution while the cleanup effort continues,” James’ press release stated. “Swimming in the lake is not recommended until the sediment clears out and visibility returns to normal.”

On Wednesday, the emergency ban on boating and swimming in the lake had been extended, as reported by Cuba Police Chief Dustin Burch, due to continued cleanup of debris in the lake.

Heavy rains and flooding June 6 washed tree branches and other debris into the lake. No water vessels, including boats, jet skis, kayaks or any other watercraft have been permitted to launch or travel on the lake during the duration of the order, which was first issued at 4 p.m. June 7 by James and Burch.
