Allegany County rider earns equestrian national titles in Tenn.
Jesse Heffley, senior at Alfred-Almond Central School, won national titles June 7 at the Youth Equestrian Development Association (YEDA) National Championship show in McDonald, Tennessee.
Heffley joined the Winning Edge team two years ago and his dedication, hard work and focus has paid off. For the 24-25 season, he was the highest pointed rider in his pattern division and won his class in Tennessee to land the national champion title.
For his rail division, he was third in overall points and walked away from his second ride with the National Reserve Championship.
The YEDA organization requires students to “catch ride,” which means they must learn to adapt to different horses. The consistency that Heffley displayed to not only be highest in points for the year but to also land two national championships is impressive and shows his commitment to true horsemanship.
Heffley will continue his equestrian journey with Alfred State College, where he will be enrolled in the veterinarian technology program.
Coach Rose Stayer-Ruffner coaches both the Winning Edge and Alfred State College team and said, “I am excited to be part of Jesse’s journey both as a rider and person. He has worked so hard for everything he has accomplished and to see him put it all on the line and earn 2 National titles is a testament that grit pays off.
“Jesse has grit and will be an asset not only to Alfred State College, but future employers that are lucky enough to hire him,” she added.
