Hinsdale’s KinderBuddies walk the walk at grad parade
HINSDALE — Of the many traditions at Hinsdale Central School, seeing pairs of the oldest and youngest Bobcats walking side by side at the end of the school year is a community favorite.
Now in its fourth year, the annual KinderBuddies parade on Wednesday was the culmination of a year of connection between the seniors and kindergarteners.
Two Hinsdale KinderBuddies — a soon-to-graduate senior and a kindergartener — walk out the front doors of the school for the annual grad parade Wednesday.
Donning caps and gowns, the 24 seniors and 24 kindergarteners walked together in a parade along Main Street for their families, teachers, classmates and community members.
This program started five years ago when high school teacher Juliann Fair, the student council advisor, started the KinderBuddy program.
“It has been a rewarding part of my job, seeing the smiles and love between the students,” Fair said.
Once a month, members of the Class of 2025 met with their assigned “KinderBuddies” from the Class of 2037, creating a special relationship between the two. Outside of their monthly meets, the kindergarteners loved seeing their buddies throughout the day, such as when they passed in the hallway or saw them in the cafeteria.
The annual Hinsdale KinderBuddies grad parade was held Wednesday along Main Street in front of the school.
