Eldred WWII Museum introduces a new and rare artifact
ELDRED, Pa. — The Eldred WWII Museum recently acquired on loan a tapestry that once hung in the dining room of Heinrich Himmler’s lake house in Tegernsee, Germany.
The Jager tapestry (Hunter Tapestry) is now on display in the museum, along with the story of how and when a soldier of the U.S. Army’s 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion acquired it in May 1945.
Through research and information from several military sites and a collectors’ organization, which had personal contact with the designer of the tapestry before he passed away, museum officials were able to authenticate the tapestry’s history.
The goal of the Eldred WWII Museum has been to educate and tell the stories of veterans and individuals who experienced WWII and all it encompassed.
This new and rare artifact adds a visual dimension to the stories of WWII veterans that are told throughout the Eldred WWII Museum’s displays.
