Community Day: Cuba Library serves more than 200 kids in reading program
CUBA — The Cuba Circulating Library used its most recent United Way grant to fund the 2024 Summer Learning Program.
The library had more than 200 children participate in the program, where they read books each week and tracked their minutes by logging them with the library. Children were given six free books for participating in the program.
The library also held 144 programs throughout the summer, including fun programs such as story times, art classes, AKT self-defense, and the Bubbleman. The Bubbleman always picks one child out of the audience to be inside a giant bubble.
This year, he picked Jedi, who was absolutely thrilled to be inside a bubble!
His mom said, “This was Jedi’s first time ever being selected as a volunteer he was so excited and hasn’t stopped talking about it since we left the library thank you for hosting so many kid friendly events best library in the area 100%.”
Several parents told us they used the skills they learned during story time to continue these activities at home. They practiced the literacy skills they learned from our youth coordinator — finger songs, rhymes, and crafts, with their children. These are crucial for early literacy development.
