Ellicottville’s Metzger named Youth of the Week

The Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau announces that this week’s featured Youth Citizenship Award recipient is Ryan Metzger, a senior at Ellicottville High School and the son of Dean and Randi Metzger.

Metzger’s exemplary character and leadership qualities make him a standout student, as highlighted by his school resource officer’s nomination. His commitment to uplifting his peers and his genuine kindness reflect a deep sense of community and responsibility, showcasing the positive impact he has on those around him.

Metzger’s ambition to pursue a degree in education and to become a high school history teacher, alongside his desire to coach football and track, highlights his commitment to shaping young minds both academically and athletically. His passion for history and sports can inspire students and foster a well-rounded educational environment while also allowing him to develop leadership and teamwork skills essential for student-athletes.

Metzger’s dedication to community service is exemplified by his nine years of altar service at Holy Name of Mary, where he assists the priest during Mass. In addition to this vital role, he actively engages as a youth leader in the youth group, facilitating insightful Q&As on Biblical topics and contributing to the success of community events like the Irish Christmas community fundraiser by helping to serve, clear and clean up. His extensive volunteer efforts reflect a deep commitment to his community and faith.

Metzger has made significant contributions to his school community by actively participating in various events and programs. He has volunteered for the Sports Boosters by parking cars during Fall Festival, and he has taken on crucial roles as a youth coach at the Future Titans Camp, where he assists elementary football players in learning new skills and developing leadership qualities. Additionally, he has coached youth basketball, further demonstrating his commitment to fostering sportsmanship and personal growth among young athletes.

In school, Metzger is a member of many extracurricular activities, including Class of 2025 secretary for four years; Quiz Bowl for three years; SkillsUSA for one year; high school musicals for two years; football for six years, 2024–25 season captain; basketball for six years, 2024–25 season captain; and track for three years, discus and shot put.

Metzger’s passion for travel along the East Coast, coupled with his interest in historical events and places, fuels his explorations and enriches his experiences. In addition, photography serves as a medium for him to capture and share the vibrant stories and landscapes he encounters on his journeys.

His commitment to his school and community not only fosters a positive environment but also encourages others to engage and contribute, reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility and teamwork. Congratulations, Ryan!

Nominations for the 2025 graduating class are closed. For more information, visit cattcoyouth.org or contact Christina O’Brien, Youth Bureau program coordinator, at (716) 701-3360.
