OLEAN — The city of Olean will host a surplus equipment auction on June 14.
The auction, to be held at 10 a.m., will be on the floor at the William O. Smith Recreation Center, 551 E. State St. The doors open at 9:30 a.m.
Property declared as surplus by the city includes ladders, typewriters, file cabinets, and various other items.
Along with surplus equipment, items held by the Olean Police Department will also be sold. State law allows police agencies to auction property seized as evidence in criminal cases that is unclaimed or no longer needed.
Historically, the largest number of items sold at the auctions have been bicycles that are picked up and stored at the Olean Municipal Building but were never claimed by owners. Tools and other property that were seized and unclaimed or unwanted are also being auctioned.
Such auctions are usually held once a year as space for storage in city hall fills to capacity.
Cash or check with valid identification will be accepted for payment. All items must be removed from the center at the end of the auction.
