OLEAN — Southern Tier Catholic School announces that the Diocese of Buffalo has awarded longtime educator Mary Lou Plesac the Golden Apple Award.
This prestigious honor recognizes teachers who go above and beyond in their dedication to Catholic education, inspiring students through faith, excellence in instruction and a deep commitment to their school communities.
Plesac has taught multiple grade levels at Southern Tier Catholic School and Archbishop Walsh Academy during her 35-year career, including holding the role of Director of Spiritual Life.
“Mary Lou exemplifies everything this award stands for,” said Brittany Nichols, STCS Principal.
The Golden Apple Award celebrates educators who bring the Catholic faith to life in the classroom, demonstrate a passion for professional growth and create learning environments where students feel supported both academically and spiritually. Award recipients are also recognized for their collaboration with faculty, families and the greater school community.
School officials said Plesac’s leadership and contributions have enriched the lives of countless students and families, making her a true cornerstone of the Southern Tier Catholic School community.
As Director of Spiritual Life, Plesac planned and led school Masses, taught religion classes and helped cultivate a strong Catholic identity across the school. Her involvement with the music ministry for St. John the Evangelist Parish, located on the same North Union Street campus as the school, further deepens the connection between parish and school life.
“Her dedication and care for her students have made a lasting impact on generations of children,” Nichols said of Plesac. “We are incredibly proud of her and grateful for the light she brings to our school every day.”
