Cindy Nupp, the animal-control officer for Olean and the surrounding area, faces a “long and challenging recovery” from injuries she suffered in a dog attack.
A GoFundMe page is set up to raise funds in support of Nupp, who has a fractured ulna in her left arm and many bites and puncture wounds resulting from the May 18 incident, according to Shallena Holland, who set up the GoFundMe page.
The injuries required treatment and follow-up care at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.
“Cindy Nupp is a well-known and respected figure in our community,” the GoFundMe page states. “From her many years of volunteer service with the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department, to her roles as a local Dog Control Officer (DCO) for several municipalities, Court Bailiff, to her presence at Grand Slam Restaurant, she has supported many of us helping anyone in need.
“Cindy quietly and often anonymously gives back to the community, including the four-legged friends in need. Anyone who’s dealt with Cindy in her DCO role knows how much she cares and goes above and beyond to help reunite families with their furry companions.”
Nearly $2,600 had been raised as of Thursday evening. An account to benefit Nupp has also been established at Five Star Bank.
Nupp, who serves as the animal-control officer for the city of Olean, the village of Allegany and the towns of Olean, Allegany and Hinsdale, could not be reached for comment Thursday.
Nupp’s daughter, Shannon Granger Scott, in a Facebook post, thanked several people for aiding the animal-control officer at the time of the incident, including Olean Police Officer Colton Miller, who was first on scene, as well as Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Hinsdale Fire Department members and Trans Am Ambulance personnel.
“Let’s come together as a community to help lift Cindy emotionally, as well as financially, lifting the burden and stress of worrying how she will pay her bills while being unable to work,” the GoFundMe page stated. “She’s always been there for us; now it’s our turn to be there for her.”
