Food truck applications on agenda in Wellsville village

WELLSVILLE — Chickens were back on the agenda for Tuesday’s village board meeting — but it was the serving of, not the raising of fowl.

In April, the village approved the raising of chickens within the village limits, but Tuesday evening board members tabled the application for a food truck to serve Caribbean-style chicken dishes.

Kemar Vaughn’s application was tabled due to a lack of information. He wants to operate a food truck in the village, but the trustees don’t know where or when. The application request was put on hold until the next meeting.

The issue, as well as a previous request from Hailie Cantrell, owner of the Hot Potato Company, has the board looking at revamping the application process regarding food trucks. They believe they need to have more information included in the application.

In the meantime, Cantrell’s application was approved; however, food will not be served from her Broad Street residence as was previously suggested because such things are prohibited by zoning regulations for residential areas.

The board approved a resolution allowing it to set code enforcement fees after receiving a fee schedule from Municipal Alliance Code Enforcement (MACE). By the end of June, there will be no longer be a code enforcement officer in the village due to the resignation of Rich Wenslow. MACE, based out of Caneadea, which represents 22 other local municipalities, has been approved to take over the code enforcement duties in Wellsville.

“They’re going to enforce our laws,” said village Mayor Randy Shayler.

Village Clerk Wendy Seely said that the details are still being worked out and that there may be some delays in processing building permits and other permits. However, she added, there are four people working out of the Caneadea office and delays shouldn’t be long.

The trustees also approved an application for Music On the Deck. The activity will take place on the deck at the Wellsville Country Club on June 4 and June 11 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Before adjourning the trustees also approved the promotion of Kyle Elliott to Class 2 water system operator. He will be working as an operator for the underground water distribution system in the village.

Asher Billings was also approved for the position of line worker second-year apprentice.

The board is also looking at revamping the village’s emergency plan in relation to the availability of generators.

The board also noted primary election day is June 24 when the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. All towns have a Republican primary for county treasurer limited to only members of the Republican Party.

Early voting will take place in the Wellsville village office from Saturday, June 14, to Sunday, June 22, and is open to voters from any town.

There will be no voting at an early voting site on Election Day. Early voting at the Village Hall will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends and from 8 to 4 weekdays from June 14 to June 22.
