The Portville baseball team was fortunate enough to get a first round bye in the Section 6 Class C playoff bracket. As the No. 6 seed they got the last spot, and they will now look to make the most of that time in their first playoff game.
A road contest against No. 3 CSP (Clymer/Sherman/Panama) looms. An opponent that has gone 10-5.
Portville coach Joe Pleakis believes in his group right now, “We have been playing good baseball,” Pleakis said. “I don’t want to go so far as to say we need a boost. If we get the pitching, hitting and fielding we have had I feel comfortable going into this game.”
The Panthers (9-7) have been streaky this year, starting 3-5 before rattling off six straight to improve to 9-5. They finished the regular season with two losses. “It’s almost two halves of the season,” Pleakis said. “New coach, new system. I think we have a good sense of guys playing confident in their roles now.”
Pleakis is looking to earn his first playoff win as coach of the Panthers. Team leaders to look out for include Aiden DeFazio and Ty Kosinski, Cole and Cam Keesler come up big as well.
The game is at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
