Olean-area residents will have to be satisfied with the dry weather of the past couple days, as the National Weather Service predicts more unseasonably cool and wet weather for the coming week.
Much like last week, the weather will peak early with Tuesday likely being the nicest day. There should be at least partial sunshine and a high in the low 70s.
“Unfortunately, the dry weather will not last,” said Philip Pandolfo, a meteorologist at the Buffalo office of the NWS. “We’re going to be expecting widespread rain to move into the area starting late Tuesday night.”
Wednesday will overcast with rain and a high in the mid-50s. Rainfall totals are expected to be a quarter of an inch. Rain showers will continue Thursday morning, but the sun should make an appearance later in the day. The high will be in the low to mid-60s.
More showers are possible Friday, though it should be warmer with a high near 70.
“We’ve been impacted by these closed low pressure systems. Essentially, these close circulations in the atmosphere, they’re veery large and they tend to draw a lot of cold air out of Canada and then they get trapped inside these large circulations. The nature of the beast is they tend to be very sluggish to move, so depending on where they set up they can cause very cool, wet weather,” explained Pandolfo.
Looking ahead to the coming weekend, Saturday will be partly cloudy with morning rain showers and a high in the mid-60s, while Sunday is currently expected to be partly cloudy with a high in the upper 60s.
There are, however, signs that the trend of cool wet weather may soon begin to change.
“There are some hints that we will start to warm up again next week. We do have high temperatures getting back into the 70s by next Monday,” said Pandolfo.
