WEST VALLEY — The Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management and CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV), its cleanup contractor at the West Valley Demonstration Project, recently completed its annual Earth Day Photo Contest, which depicts the beauty and magnificence of the world through the eyes of the workforce.
“At the West Valley Demonstration Project, it is understood that the protection of the environment is something that is not just remembered but put into practice every day and in everything we do,” said Jennifer Dundas, Assistant Director of Office of Technical Services. “Looking at the natural beauty contained in all of these photos reminds you of how precious nature is and why we must always be good environmental stewards.”
Photos fell under one of four categories: wildlife, scenery, foliage and kids and the environment. Submitted photos were displayed onsite and at the Ashford Office Complex for team members to view and vote for their favorite photo.
CHBWV’s Regulatory Strategy Department awarded a trophy and a photo of their entry to the winner in each category following the voting period, which ended April 30.
“This Earth Day activity helps create awareness of nature’s beauty and reinforces the importance of environmental stewardship for everyone,” said Julie Sansone, environmental engineer with CHBWV.
In addition to the contest, the top 12 photos will be featured in the 2026 Safety Calendar, which is distributed to employees in January. The Safety Calendar promotes a safe work environment by highlighting information on safety-related topics and programs at the site.
