Salamanca Farmers Market kicks off Tuesday

SALAMANCA — The Salamanca Farmers Market is set to open for the season Tuesday and will continue weekly from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 28. As in past years, the market will be located at 768 Broad St. near the Seneca Gaming Bingo Hall.

Area residents are looking forward to fresh, seasonal produce, and they are anxious to see what this year’s farmers market has in store. Vendors will offer an assortment of fruits and vegetables, baked goods, maple syrup, fresh eggs, flowers, plants, soaps, jewelry, a variety of crafts and, hopefully, honey.

Rachael Ferguson, who has been market manager since 2020, said she will be bringing a variety of baked goods from her Doughy Delights bakery in Great Valley, including her popular homemade, fresh-baked pies and breads.

“There will be some new farmer vendors, and we will be introducing a table with different meats this year,” she said. “We’ll have a new food truck, The Pig Out Place, on site.”

This year’s setup will be much the same as in the past few years — and space is limited. Ferguson said the tables will be set up on the grass and not in the parking lot because the pavement is way too hot for the vendors on hot days.

“The 2024 season was great. We love seeing all our repeat customers and customers that visit from the state park,” Ferguson said.

The farmers market is a great social gathering place for people to meet, visit and shop, Ferguson said. It’s a place for people to shop locally and meet the local farmers. She said it’s also nice to meet and shop together in the summer and be out in the fresh air.

“I think it’s important to have the farmers market, so the community can shop local at small businesses in our area,” she said. “Having fresh fruits and veggies available each week is what we want for the community.”

Ferguson said the market is not accepting any additional vendors, unless they are selling fruits, veggies or dairy products.

“I can start a waiting list for vendors that are interested, but with new state regulations, I need a certain percentage of farmers now,” she said.

The market takes place rain or shine unless the weather is extreme. For more information and updates, email Ferguson at rferguson2011@yahoo.com. Follow “Salamanca Farmers Market” on Facebook.
