CHAUTAQUA LAKE – The Portville softball team lost 13-1 in their Section 6 Class C quarterfinal on Thursday thanks in part to seven Chautauqua Lake runs in the fifth inning. The Eagles first got on the board in the third inning after Cayzlee Johnson hit a two-run home run.
Chautauqua Lake scored seven runs on seven hits in the fifth. Isabella Morales started for Portville, surrendering 17 hits and 13 runs (11 earned) over five innings. Morales went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.
Olean loses 8-2 in sectional quarterfinal against Grand IslandGRAND ISLAND — Olean couldn’t keep up with Grand Island in their Section 6 Class A quarterfinal, losing 8-2.
Pitcher Emma Edwards took the loss on the mound for Olean. She went six innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits, striking out five and walking five. Alaina Hirliman, Anna Bates, and Riley Sudbrook each collected one hit for the Huskies. Bates and Ava Finch each had an RBI and Sudbrook had two walks.
