Police reports: Dog attacking Olean police fatally shot, officer injured

OLEAN — City police reported the shooting of a dog attacking two patrol officers Thursday, resulting in the injury of one officer and the death of the dog.

Officers responded at 5:50 p.m. to 126 N. Fourth St. for a welfare check of a person at the residence. After speaking with the unidentified person, the owner’s dog allegedly ran towards the officers and twice bit Patrolman Dylan Ensell, injuring his arm.

After failing to stop the dog from attacking the officers by using pepper spray, the dog was shot and eventually died, police reported.

Ensell was transported by ambulance to Olean General Hospital for treatment to his wounds and was later released.
