BOLIVAR – The first week of playoff softball has had area teams earn major blowout victories. Bolivar-Richburg followed that pattern Friday with a comfortable 12-0 win over Perry to advance to the Section 5 Class C2 quarterfinal.
Starting pitcher Rylee Whiting pitched five scoreless innings with ten strikeouts and two hits allowed. She was also 2-3 with two RBI doubles batting. In total, B-R had 11 hits off of Perry starter Isabella Zalewski.
The Wolverines went up 1-0 in the first off of a Whiting double, and made it 5-0 in the third inning with RBI doubles from Whiting and Danicka Loucks.
“I’m proud of how the girls came out,” B-R coach Brooke Lovell said. “We were a little slow to start but we were able to get some good hits later in the game so I’m proud of them and their resiliency.”
While Whiting was mowing through the Perry batting order with some ease, B-R added seven runs over the next three innings to make it an early end to their playoff contest.
Loucks finished 2-3 with two RBIs while Sommer Beckworth had a two RBI triple in the fifth.
No. 4 seed Bolivar-Richburg will face No. 5 Kendall at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Kendall should be a good matchup,” Lovell said. “We just need to take it one game at a time and keep playing well.”
