ALFRED — The Alfred State Archery team wrapped up its 2025 campaign at the USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals in East Lansing, Mich.
Sophomore Brandon Stanton of Union Springs, an electrical engineering major, set a new school record with a score of 685 in his qualification round, setting himself as a top 20 seed and earning a first-round bye in the elimination rounds.
Stanton won his first match against a competitor from Rowan University but lost a close back-and-forth round against an archer from Mount Mary University of Milwaukee, Wis., to end his medal bid.
Along with Stanton, Alfred State’s Adam Winter of Clifton Park (construction management) also represented the Pioneers at the National Championships. Both earned All-East honors earlier this spring.
Assistant coach Travis Smith was proud of Stanton’s new record, saying, “Brandon performed well by staying focused on his process shot to shot, and not overthinking the outcome to distract him from what he needed to do.”
In total team results, the University of the Cumberlands of Kentucky reclaimed the team championship, with defending champions Texas A&M University finishing second.
