MARIENVILLE, Pa. — A Port Allegany teen was killed in a rollover crash at 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Route 66 Forest County.
While Marienville-based state police did not release the victim’s name, Forest County Coroner Norman J. Wimer said that Hunter J. Whitney, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash.
According to Wimer and Marienville-based state police, a vehicle driven by Whitney was traveling north on Route 66 when it struck the rear of another vehicle that had been stopped to turn, then crossed over the double yellow line into the southbound lane and began to roll over.
A third vehicle was southbound on Route 66 and its driver was unable to avoid striking Whitney’s vehicle in the passenger side. Following impact, Whitney’s vehicle rolled back into an upright position and slid to a final stop facing east.
The third vehicle slid to a stop facing east against Whitney’s vehicle. The second vehicle was moved to the side of the road.
Wimer pronounced Whitney dead at the scene.
Names of the occupants of the two other vehicles were not released. However, it was reported to Wimer that they received minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for evaluation.
Both lanes of Route 66 were blocked for several hours.
An investigation of the crash is ongoing.
