ST. BONAVENTURE — Steve Watson, St. Bonaventure’s director of athletics, started on an indefinite voluntary medical leave beginning Wednesday, to undergo elective, preventative heart surgery.
According to a University press release, Watson and his family have expressed their appreciation in advance for the concerns and prayers of all well-wishers.
Barb Questa, senior associate athletics director, will be the acting A.D. during Steve’s absence.
Watson, who has been the Bonnies’ athletic director since 2006, lost his father and brother in a 13-month period, both victims of heart problems.
His father, John G. Watson, dean of the St. Bonaventure school of business, died in April 2011 at age of 67. His brother, John J. Watson, 45, a marketing professor at Bona, died in May.
