‘Standoff’ in Canisteo between trooper, horse

The New York State Police posted a photo to its Facebook page of a standoff over “horsepower” in the town of Canisteo, Steuben County. At a call for a horse in the road, a trooper from Troop E tried to lure the horse home with alfalfa, but the animal seemed more interested in licking the salt off the patrol car. When the NYSP was founded in 1917, troopers rode horses, but have since mostly turned them in for sedans and SUVs.
