I read with dismay the article in the Olean Times Herald that Cuba-Rushford Central School District is considering sanctioning an after-school trap shooting club at an area shooting range.

I can’t even begin to understand the reasoning behind this possibility. With all of the deadly gun-related incidents in our nation’s schools, how could they possibly consider encouraging the use of guns as a school-sponsored activity?

I am concerned that many of the students who might be drawn to this activity may have an unhealthy obsession with guns and violence. I realize I have not considered all aspects of the issue but I would certainly be interested to hear the positive side of this issue.

As a taxpayer and citizen against gun violence, I believe my opinion should be taken into consideration.
