NOTICE

The Town of Olean Highway Department is accepting applications for Commercial Driver Class B. Duties include the frequent operation of motorized equipment with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) in excess of 26,000 pounds. Incumbents also perform a variety of manual tasks associated with highway and public works operations. Duties are performed under general supervision. Direct supervision may be exercised over personnel engaged in assigned projects.

Typical Work Activities:

Performs pre-trip or pre-job inspections of various motorized equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Operates truck, grader, crane, bulldozer, front end loader, tractor mounted backhoe, and other motorized equipment utilized in the construction and maintenance of roads and other public works activities. Loads and unloads truck by hand or utilizing motorized equipment. Performs a variety of manual tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges. Operates a snowplow clearing roads and applying traction material. Maintains inspection and service records. Performs routine maintenance on assigned vehicle.

Knowledge. Skills. Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Working knowledge of general safe driving practices necessary in the operation of motorized equipment; working knowledge of the principles and operation of vehicle air brake systems; skill in the operation of trucks and other motorized equipment; ability to follow direction; good powers of observation; ability to use hand and power tools; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; willingness to work outdoors year round; possession of a good driving record; ability-to maintain alertness and composure during snow removal activities; physical condition sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements and without restrictions as appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. The Town of Olean reserves the right to waive the minimum qualifications if it so

Applications are due to be returned to the Town Hall by March 27th, 2026.
